With Charlotte’s municipal primary coming up on Tuesday, Sept. 15, there’s still plenty of conversation — and contention — among some community members on just who LGBT voters should choose for mayor.
There’s a deep Democratic field running for their opportunity to advance to November’s general election. Two candidates, in particular, have stood out as the most friendly to the LGBT community and our issues.
Incumbent Mayor Dan Clodfelter was endorsed by the Mecklenburg LGBT Political Action Committee (MeckPAC). Jennifer Roberts and Clodfelter were both endorsed by Equality North Carolina. The divide in support has led to interesting conversations among community members and, as we near primary election day, it became increasingly important to hear directly from the community’s top two picks for mayor.
I had the opportunity for Q&As with both Clodfelter and Roberts. In both, we talk about what differentiates the candidates from each other, their views on March’s failed LGBT-inclusive non-discrimination ordinance and other issues.
